Communications Maintainer
The Belt Railway Company of Chicago is currently accepting resumes for a Communications Maintainer. The successful candidate for this position will support current and new communications infrastructure, provide support for existing computer systems, cabling (copper and fiber), networking systems, phone (VoIP), camera system, and radios. The successful candidate will create, update and enhance written Standard Operating Procedures and demonstration using guidelines to enhance systems understanding and completeness. This candidate will perform general system administration duties in a Cisco environment and participate in on-call rotation, receiving and responding to afterhours alerts. Train Service Employee
A train service employee is responsible for the safe movement of freight trains and switching of cars in the yards. Specific functions will include frequently climbing ladders to board standing cars, operating hand brakes, coupling air hoses between cars, operating track switches, inspecting cars and using hand and lantern signals, radio communications and remote control technology to control train movement. This is not a typical 40-hour-a-week opportunity; the position consists of variable and irregular work hours with irregularly scheduled days off. Train service employees work weekends and holidays on an “on call” basis, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
Signal Maintainer
The Belt Railway Company of Chicago is currently accepting applications for Certified Signalpersons or Trainees. They will assist the Signal Maintainer in inspection, testing and maintenance of batteries to insure proper operation, inspection and testing of signal circuitry, replacing defective components, wiring, broken lenses or light bulbs, cleaning signal equipment including signs and lenses with cloths and solvents, lubricating moving parts on mechanical equipment, inspection, testing and maintenance of signal equipment such as grade crossing devices, power switches and switch air unit controllers, installing testing and maintaining retarder systems, performing a wide range of construction, installation, maintenance and repair activities requiring frequent use of hand tools, general labor duties as assigned. Must be able to work in a safety-sensitive, construction-oriented environment.
