Belt Railway Company of Chicago Police Officer

Summary:

The Police Officer performs law enforcement duties to protect life, property, and the rights of individuals. This position ensures public safety through crime prevention, investigation, and enforcement of laws and ordinances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enforces local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Patrols assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to maintain public order and deter criminal activity.
  • Responds promptly to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes and accidents.
  • Prepares accurate reports and maintains records in accordance with department standards.
  • Apprehends, detains, and transports suspects in accordance with legal procedures.
  • Provides testimony in court and cooperates with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Participates in community-oriented policing and public safety initiatives.
  • Operates department vehicles, radios, and other law enforcement equipment.
  • Assists with traffic control, crowd management, and special events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Must be a certified or certifiable police officer in the state of Illinois
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to meet physical, mental, and psychological standards for law enforcement duties.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in various environments, including office settings, vehicles, and outdoor conditions in all weather.
  • May involve exposure to dangerous situations, physical altercations, and hazardous materials.
  • Requires shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to meet department physical fitness standards.
  • Requires prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
