Operation Lifesaver presenter Joe Chacon was recently recognized for an incredible accomplishment.
The Belt Switchman achieved 38 Lifesaver presentations during 2011 and was recognized Dec. 13for his efforts during a year-end Illinois Operation Lifesaver meeting in Elmhurst.
This feat landed Chacon 16th in Illinois for total presentations given, which also put him in the top 10 percent. He reached out to 3,700 students last year and isn’t satisfied yet.
“The recognition makes me want to set goals for myself going into the future,” Chacon said. “I’m looking to double those numbers and place in the top 2 percent in Illinois for 2012.”
Chacon not only speaks to children, but also high school drivers education classes and local industries.
He spoke to 450 students at Graves Elementary Feb. 27, and St. Rene and Mariano Azuela Elementary Schools in March.
“Considering how many presenters are around the state, to be in that category shows how motivated Joe is toward promoting our message of safety,” said Sam Canerday, police officer and fellow Operation Lifesafer volunteer.
