Keith Taylor and his wife, Ganaa, cut their retirement cake and celebrate with employees.

Keith Taylor has worked nearly 42 years with the railroad. Although he looks forward to retirement, he will miss the memories and those with whom he worked.

He joined Santa Fe Southern Railway as a part-time employee but soon became a full-time foreman. He joined the Belt family in 1996 and quickly adapted to his new surroundings.

Taylor once performed contract work for General Electric and Amtrak. He said it could be hectic at times, but he carried a clipboard to ensure he remained organized. Employees told him he looked like a coach, and so a nickname was born.

“There are quite a few good memories I have here,” he said. “I met a lifelong friend, Dan Girten, and I will miss the people.”

Now retired, Taylor plans to enjoy time with his new wife, Ganaa. They plan to travel and visit extended family in Mongolia, her native country.

“I’m learning a lot from my wife,” he said.

Taylor encourages his former employees to focus on their health and safety.

“Make sure you work safely,” he said. “No two situations are the same. Keep your passion and enjoy what you’re doing.”
