Half of the TY&E team, about 75 employees, including dispatchers, yardmasters and locomotive engineers, completed rules training in May. The training is part of the employee certification process.
It was the first class completed since the training was insourced, as it previously was administered by a contractor. Teaching the classes are Director of Rules and Compliance Harold Kirman, Manager of Operating Practices Mark Labbe and Designated Supervisor of Remote Control Operations Jim Scarsellato.
The trainers developed the course to be more challenging and rewarding.
“We changed the level of intensity,” Kirman said. “It’s a lot harder, but it’s also a better experience for employees.”
The training is more practical and less based solely on memorization.
