Railroad assists community

The Belt allowed the Bedford Park Fire Department to perform training at its facility.

Bedford Park’s bravest performed ladder training at the top of the Diesel Shop Apr. 25-27. The training was for about 12 new additions to the department. The rookies were swung back and forth on a ladder, which extending high into the air.

Granting the fire department’s request to use the facility was all part of being a good neighbor and maintaining a strong sense of community, said Director of Police and Risk Management Mike Romano.

As part of HazMat preparedness, representatives from the Bedford Park Fire Department have frequently visited the railroad.

“If we need things from them, they help us out,” he said. “We have a great relationship. They’re always willing to help out.”
