The Belt’s newest locomotive, 291, went into service July 18.
It was the first day of field testing for the EMD GP33ECO, which involved being coupled with the 290, the second newest locomotive in the fleet. General Foreman-Locomotive Projects Nate Smith said once testing is complete, the 291 can be used on its own.
The new 12-cylinder, 3,000-horsepower locomotives were built and delivered by Progress Rail.
