New equipment will keep the lights on

Director of Information Technology Bob Whitlock says a power redundancy project, which began in March, aims to provide a seamless transition between commercial electricity and backup power in the event of an outage.

The project, which is slated for completion in August, involves installing uninterruptible power supplies in key locations such as the Command Center, where it’ll backup several monitors and computers. Use of a temporary generator will minimize impact on operations during the work.

Whitlock says the new power supplies will prevent server reboots that cost 30 minutes of downtime.

Due to its complexity, work at the hump, slated for July, 30, will require a four-hour pause in operations during the cutover.
