Employees joined forces June 3 for their semiannual cleanup day.
“Everyone gets involved,” said Mike Romano, director of police and risk management. “Every department cleans the area where they are working. By the end of the shift, it looks great.”
While such cleanup days improve the yard’s aesthetics, their ultimate purpose is employee safety.
“The Belt does a lot of things to make this place safe and nice,” said Nick Zegar, hump conductor. “I think it’s one of the neatest and cleanest railroads around, and I think other people recognize that as well.”
Cleanup participants enjoyed pizza afterward.
