Belt Railway of Chicago will undergo renovations in the coming weeks, months and years thanks to a $23.2 million capital program.
Close on the horizon are the replacement of 15,000 ties, a series of new turnouts and retarders, various bridge repairs and reduction of the bowls’ grades.
The railroad also will receive eight new locomotives in the coming years.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure BRC is physically safe and sound,” said Mike Paras, general manager of Transportation.
Positive Train Control, which is currently being implemented across the country per government mandate, also will come to BRC.
