Tablets enhance security

iPad_securityAs part of an initiative to ensure the safety of the railroad and its employees, BRC has updated its surveillance system using iPads. The iPads will allow access to managers and police, who are on site or at home, to access and monitor the yard, offices and shop.

The iPads were purchased thanks to a 2011 federal grant.

“We’re trying something new so managers and police can see what is happening at all times,” said Mike Romano, director of police and risk management. “It also allows managers to assess or assist issues quickly if they arise.”

With about 80 cameras in the yard and work stations, managers are able to communicate with one another more efficiently.
