A new safety enhancement is underway.

 More than 160 blue flags are being installed on more than 80 tracks. The flags, which will be installed in both the receiving and departure yards, fold down when not in use. 

They will replace portable flags used by carmen during inspections. 

“It’s something we use every day on the job,” General Foreman Jason Prosser said.

Having the flags where they are needed will reduce potential exposures related to hauling them and placing them in position. It also will enhance efficiency.
