Actress Melissa McCarthy, who stars in the movie “The Heat,” mentioned the Belt in the June 8 issue of Parade magazine.

McCarthy is the daughter of former Belt Director of Labor Relations and Personnel Mike McCarthy.

“In my memory, my mom and dad were constantly there … my dad worked in Chicago for the Belt Railway arguing arbitration cases, and my mom was a secretary,” McCarthy said in the Parade interview.

“He probably hired more than half of the people who work here now — including me,” said Tim Coffey, general counsel, secretary and director of human resources.
