Conductor Jerry Rathburn

While working at the East Hump, Rathburn observed a car was emitting sparks. He stopped the movement and had the car inspected. President Jerry Peck said his focus and situational awareness may have prevented a derailment.

A donation to St. Jude Children᾿s Research Hospital was made by the Belt on Rathburn’s behalf.

Patrol Officer Colin Reid

Reid observed three rail cars that had derailed approximately 300 feet east of the Martin Building and immediate notified his Belt teammates. Captain Ramon Ortiz said his action prevented further damage.

Conductor Matthew Gerloff

After noticing a non-BRC vehicle and a repairperson working without protection on a live track near the East Classification Yard, Gerloff took action and prevented a potential incident. The repairperson is no longer allowed on the Belt’s property.
