Fans keep Diesel Shop warm

Five new fans — three in the West Bay and two in the East Bay — are helping to keep the Diesel Shop comfortable.

The fans push down warm air, which naturally rises.

“They’re definitely making an impact already,” Assistant Superintendent-Mechanical Patrick McCarron said. “It’s so much warmer in the shop than in years past.”

Previously, employees used kerosene heaters to help keep the shop warm, which they haven’t had to do this winter.

In addition to keeping employee more comfortable and less distracted by the elements, it’s expected that the shop’s heating bill will be reduced.

The installation took a few weeks and was completed in December.
