Peterson knows Accounting can make a difference

When most people think of accountants the date April 15 pops into their mind along with “bean counter.”

But Accounting Manager Matt Peterson knows accounting can create efficiencies for an organization, making a difference in the quality of each employee’s workday.

“We strive to be more efficient in ways that are important to the organization,” he said. “It’s exciting to come here and help the Belt and the department continue its success.”

Nearly a third of his 15-year career has been in the railroad industry with TTX, a rail car pooling company. He’s built a strong operational accounting background in that time that is key to his role, which focuses on fixed assets, accounts payable and inventory. Paying bills on time and keeping track of material on hand ensures employees have what they need when they need it.

Peterson seeks continuous improvement for him personally and the organization. He is presently studying to become a licensed CPA, all while raising his twin 5-year-old boys, Jack and Liam.
