Along with being appointed the director of terminal operations, Rigo Ruiz will represent the Belt’s Chicago Integrated Rail Operations Center (CIROC).
Ruiz will work closely with Director of Car Operations Kevin Billingsley and Terminal Superintendent Terry Hartwig to oversee the Transportation Department, including work performed by terminal managers and yardmasters.
“I’m excited about the challenges and new opportunities,” Ruiz said, noting that he counts Billingsley and Hartwig as friends and has extensive experience working with the latter. “I trust them as well as their decisions and recommendations. We’ll help each other succeed.”
Next year, Ruiz will mark his 20th year with the Belt. The third-generation railroader started as a switchman before working as an industry conductor, yardmaster and trainmaster. Ruiz became a terminal manager in 2012 and held that role until his recent promotion.
During the past two decades, Ruiz said he’s developed strong relationships with the craft and worked alongside many excellent employees.
Hartwig further expresses his confidence in Ruiz.
“He’s knowledgeable and well respected throughout the company,” Hartwig said. “He will help lead the team and take us to another level.”
