Superintendent of Safety Terry Hartwig notes that the Belt enjoyed a “strong first quarter” in terms of safety.

Desiring to continuously improve, Hartwig invited experts from the Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI) to perform a safety culture assessment the week of April 22.

They interviewed several employees and observed facilities, operating practices, rules training and more.

Hartwig said it was useful to have other safety professionals’ perspectives and added that the visit was an opportunity to be proactive as opposed to reactive.
