Whatever isn’t broke, won’t be fixed.

Director of Accounting Brian Dilger is looking to make improvements with Accounting, but he praises the department he’s inheriting and the people who helped build it, including Accounting Manager Fred Eberhardt and Senior Director of General Accounting Jackie O’Neill.

“We already have a smooth accounting function,” Dilger said. “I’m excited to be here. It’s an interesting opportunity. I’m impressed with the Belt’s people.”

With two decades as a professional accountant and seven years of railroad experience, he said he’s primed to learn more about the industry. He most recently worked for CIT Rail, which focuses on rail car leasing and financing. He did similar work for GATX. The south suburban native also interned for a local short line railroad after graduating from University of St. Francis in Joliet. 

“I’ve always liked the railroad,” he said. “It has an important role in the economy and the complexity of moving cars in and out of a yard is a fascinating phenomenon. Being part of an operation like this is more tangible than the work I’ve done before.”

Dilger added that being so near the action of the railroad helps him visualize the company’s financials, so they are more than just numbers in a spreadsheet.
