Geiselman looks forward to new frontiers

Carman Apprentice Austin Geiselman is a skilled welder, but he wanted more.

“As a welder, you plateau quickly,” he said.

A new career in railroading promises him greater challenges and opportunity. Geiselman also had previously worked with a freight car service.

“We did a little bit of everything, including body work, wheels, brake shoes, friction casting, yokes and couplers,” he said.

Still, BRC represents a new learning experience, and Geiselman is thankful to the journeymen with whom he’s worked.

“They treat new people the same as everyone else and show us the right way, which is the safe way,” he said.

Even before he began his career in the railroad industry, Geiselman has had an interest in it and valued the stability it offers employees.

Now that he’s experienced the Belt’s safety culture firsthand, he’s impressed. He looks to add to that culture.

“I respect safety here the same way I do at home,” Geiselman said. “It’s always the key.”

Away from work

Geiselman and his fiancé, Coryna, enjoy taking their playful German Sheppard Maverick to the dog park. He also enjoys weightlifting.

“It’s my getaway and how I relieve stress,” Geiselman said.
