Signal employees recently upgraded the highway-rail grade crossing at Austin Avenue and 59th Street.

 “This new equipment calculates 20 times better, and that’s better for everyone,” Manager of Signal and Communications John Ramirez said.

In addition to being more efficient and user-friendly, the new equipment will enhance reliability and has cameras that can record incidents.

“I like where the Belt is going,” Ramirez said. “We’re upgrading crossings and interlockings with state-of-the-art equipment.”
